2025 Welbedacht Animal Census
In 2025, our team undertook a crucial animal census in a section of the Welbedacht township, near Chatsworth in Durban. Our dedicated volunteers went door-to-door, visiting 465 out of approximately 750 homes.
The purpose of this extensive survey was to gather vital information on pet ownership within the community. We aimed to determine:
* The number of households with cats and dogs.
* The vaccination, deworming, and sterilization status of these pets.
* Whether the animals had adequate food and shelter.
* That no animals were suffering from abuse or neglect.
The valuable data collected during this census will be instrumental in our efforts to combat animal overpopulation. This information will enable us to strategically plan and implement mass sterilization clinics, directly addressing the needs identified in the Welbedacht area.
