About Us

Stray Paws SA – Giving Hope to the Forgotten

Areas We Serve: The majority of the animals we help come from low-income areas including Welbedacht Township near Chatsworth, Umlazi Township, and Kwa-Dabeka near Phoenix. We also regularly respond to emergency rescues across greater Durban, ensuring no animal is left to suffer alone.

Monthly Costs & Donations: Running an organization of this nature comes with significant monthly expenses. Our costs—covering veterinary bills, food, medication, and temporary housing—average around R80,000 per month. As a volunteer-driven organization, we depend on the generosity of others. Donations of pet food, veterinary supplies, accessories like collars and blankets, and monetary contributions are all crucial to our continued success. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly supports animals who would otherwise go without care.

Ongoing Projects: At present, we are conducting a detailed population census in the Welbedacht township. This includes tracking the numbers of humans, cats, and dogs in the area to better plan our interventions for sterilization, feeding, education, and support. This project will help us identify the scale of need and allow us to act with precision and impact.

How You Can Help: Stray Paws SA is built on compassion, driven by action, and sustained by those who believe in change. Whether you’re an individual donor, a business, or someone who simply cares, your support can help us continue giving hope to the forgotten animals of Durban. Together, we can make a real, lasting difference—one paw at a time.

POPULATION CENSUS
As part of our strategic planning, we implemented a population census to gather data on household pet ownership, specifically focusing on the number of dogs per household, the number of residents, and the sterilization status of both cats and dogs. This comprehensive data collection will inform our targeted interventions in sterilization programs, feeding initiatives, educational outreach, and support services. By understanding the scope of these needs, we can enhance the precision and impact of our actions.
