Stray Paws Animal Rescue and Welfare’s Township Feeding Project is a crucial, high-impact initiative focused on addressing hunger and malnutrition among animals in impoverished areas, including the Welbedacht township near Chatsworth.
Key Aspects of the Feeding Project
* Daily Sustenance: The project plays a vital role in the survival of hundreds of animals by providing daily meals to cats and dogs who would otherwise go hungry.
* Scope of Need: The organization currently provides food to over 450 cats and dogs daily across the townships it serves, requiring a substantial amount of food (approximately 800 kilograms every two weeks).
* Beneficiaries: Food is provided to both stray/community animals and to pets of owners from disadvantaged backgrounds who are unable to consistently feed their animals due to financial hardship.
* Integrated Welfare Tool: The feeding runs serve a dual purpose: they not only sustain the animals physically but also help build trust with the community and the animals themselves. This trust is essential for the second critical phase of their work, which is administering medical treatment, vaccinations, and performing sterilization.
* Resource Dependence: The project is sustained entirely by donations of food and monetary contributions, which are crucial to meeting the constant demand for pet nourishmen
